Discover the secrets of the Three Country Park
The open space between the MHAL-cities
In and around the Three Countries Park, covering the area between the MHAL-cities Maastricht - Hasselt - Heerlen - Aachen and Liège, we find an impressive number of nature education and visitor centres. These centres form an ideal starting point for anyone who is interested in landscape and nature and who wants to know more of the natural, historical and cultural assets of the region. On the overviewmap you find the links to the centers.
The project Crossborder education
The Cross Border Education Network is part of a larger European Network of organizations involved with managing and conservation of the open spaces in urbanized regions (Sustainable Open Space: SOS2). This Cross Border project has established the links between 19 nature education and visitor centres in Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium and aims at the exchange of knowledge, education and training materials on landscape and nature of the Three Country Park Region. This way a common education approach and practical projects can be developed to strengthen the typical characteristics of this unique border region. The project has developed the present website, where you can link up with each of the centres.
Discover the secrets of the landscape in the Three Countries Park yourself
During the summer of 2005, twenty five volunteer nature and tourist guides from all over the MHAL-region have followed a 5 day training course and are now certified “3 Country Guides”. These guides can offer guided tours, lectures, and excursions through all parts of the MHAL-region, in three languages. They know and can tell stories about the rich history and culture of the region. At the same time, you will experience why it is necessary to keep the green and open spaces between the big cities open and protect them.
